Woman Told Her Daughter Her Father Had Died Years Later, the Girl Discovered a Heartbreaking Truth
“I bet you have questions,” she said calmly, motioning Cassie inside.
“Start talking,” Cassie hissed, her voice raw with emotion.
Her mother sighed, pouring them both tea. She sat across from Cassie, her face weary with the weight of what was about to be revealed.
“Do you remember when we talked about your friends’ parents getting divorced?” her mother began, stirring her tea absentmindedly. “Well, what I didn’t tell you is that your father and I were never legally married.”
Cassie blinked in disbelief. “What? How is that possible?”
Her mother took a deep breath. “He was already married, Cassie. To another woman. In the town where he always had his ‘business trips.’ He had another family.”
The room seemed to spin. Cassie felt like the ground had been pulled from beneath her. Her father, her hero, had led a double life? How had she not known?
“And you never told me?” Cassie demanded, tears threatening to spill. “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Because I couldn’t,” her mother replied softly. “You adored him. I couldn’t bear to shatter that image. So, when he chose his other family over us, I told him he was dead to us. I crafted the story of his death so you’d never know.”
Cassie stared at her mother, speechless. The depth of the betrayal, not just by her father, but by her mother’s silence, left her reeling.
“I thought it would be better for you,” her mother said, her voice breaking. “I thought it would hurt less if you believed he died in an accident rather than abandoned us.”
Cassie stood, unable to listen anymore. She stormed out, her mind racing. Her father wasn’t dead. He had chosen someone else. But now, after all these years, he wanted to see her. Could she face him?
