A Single Mother

Pauline, a single mother of an eight-year-old daughter named Lisa, worked long hours as a janitor at a local elementary school to provide her child with a carefree and happy life.

Pauline has taken on the responsibility of both parents since her partner left a few years ago. She takes care of the children on her own every day without help or support from a partner.

Every month she struggled to make ends meet, with her daughter’s birthday approaching she felt the pressure to do something special despite her limited resources which forced her to be creative and find new ways to give her daughter a birthday to remember.

On an average weekday, Pauline was walking past a flea market, where her eyes were immediately drawn to a vintage doll. Although this doll was old, the refined details were immediately noticeable and she radiated a soft beauty.

Despite her limited financial resources, Pauline bought the doll as the perfect gift for Eve’s birthday. She left with a satisfied feeling, happy that she could finally give her daughter the gift she wanted.

The Desire

Eve’s birthday was a special but also challenging day, as the children at school were not particularly kind to her due to her humble background. She felt lonely and left out amidst the celebrations and presents.

“Mom, can I have a doll?” she asked Pauline sadly. “Maybe the doll can be my friend, because I don’t have any friends.”
