Despite how ridiculous these tales may sound, the most startling one is the one about Peruvian Lina Medina, who gave birth at the age of five. Medina is 89 years old today.

She became the youngest mother in history when she gave birth in 1939. She allegedly experienced “precocious puberty,” a condition in which puberty begins earlier than typical. Although it was initially thought that Medina’s father was the biological parent, there was ultimately insufficient proof to clear him of all charges.

Legal action is unlikely to be taken against teenage couples of similar age who have consensual sex in the UK when under the legal consent age of 16.
