People Are Just Watching Grease And Calling It ‘Misogynistic’ And ‘Sexist’
One person also said that in the song ‘Summer Nights’ the Lyrics “Did she put up a fight” ruin the entire movie.
Some were saying it was the peak of homophobia because all of the relationships in the movie were straight.
A breakdown of how Grease is sexist af:
– The drive-in movie scene where Johnny pretty much forces himself on Sandy
– How Sandy is bullied into changing herself for a guy
– “Did she put up a fight?” Like, really?
– Everyone lowkey hates on Rizzo cos she might be pregnant— hillybillyhillbillyhillybill (@HillyandBilly) July 4, 2018
Olivia Newton-John also had something to say in a 2020 interview. She was asked if Sandy was more stereotypically sexy or was a celebration of sexism.
Newton-John said: “It’s a movie. It’s a story from the 50s where things were different. Everyone forgets that, at the end, he changes for her, too. There’s nothing deep in there about the #MeToo movement.
“It’s just a girl who loves a guy, and she thinks if she does that, he’ll like her. And he thinks if he does that, she’ll like him. I think that’s pretty real. People do that for each other. It was a fun love story.”
I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.
