I Found a Note in My Daughters Backpack Saying, I am Your Real Dad, Come and See Me After School, I Went Pale When I Found Out Who Did It
Lily’s lip quivered, and she remained silent, her eyes darting between the two men.
Trent’s anger flared again, and he turned back to Jeff. “Get out of here.”
Jeff sighed, shaking his head. “I’m not going anywhere. She deserves to know.”
“You are not her father!” Trent growled, his voice barely contained. “You never will be.”
After a long, tense moment, Jeff finally turned and walked away. Trent’s hands shook as he pulled Lily into his arms, holding her tight. He wouldn’t let anyone destroy their bond.
That night, Trent lay awake, his mind spinning. Could any of what Jeff said be true? Could Kate have hidden something so monumental from him? But he couldn’t shake the feeling that Jeff was manipulating them. The next day, Trent began investigating Jeff’s past and found the truth he needed.
Jeff had a history of deceit and manipulation. He’d been fired for lying at work and had a track record of fabricating relationships to get what he wanted. It was all a sick game to him.
Relieved, Trent sat down with Lily a few days later. “Kiddo, Jeff lied to you. He’s not your father. He was trying to hurt us.”
Lily looked up at him, still scared. “But… what if it’s true?”
Trent hugged her close. “It’s not. I’ve always been your dad, and that will never change.”
“I love you, Dad,” she whispered, her voice breaking.
“I love you too, Lily. Always.”
A few days later, the police called to tell Trent that Jeff had been arrested for stalking another family. The nightmare was over. Trent hung up the phone and smiled. As he walked over to Lily, he kissed the top of her head.
