A savvy customer pulled off one of the boldest shopping wins ever using the famous Home Depot “penny item” hack — where discontinued or hidden items ring up for just $0.01 at checkout.

After spotting the item high on a shelf, he asked an employee for help getting it down. Once at the register, it scanned for exactly one cent — success! But that’s when things got heated.

A manager, who had reportedly hidden the item to prevent anyone from buying it, stormed out and demanded the customer return it. But the customer stood his ground, calmly replying, “I already bought it, though. I don’t have to return it if I don’t want to.”
