Cops forced to scan intestines for evidence after man allegedly swallows $769,000 diamond earrings in jewelry heist
Police had a rather grim discovery as part of a jewelry heist investigation after they arrested a suspect last month.
In a rather bizarre incident, police arrested Jaythan Lawrence Gilder, 32 for what they believe to be a rather brazen attempt at a hundred thousand dollar heist.
The alleged thief is accused of impersonating someone representing an NBA player in order to gain access to the pricey jewelry when he entered a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando.
According to police, Gilder allegedly grabbed what he could get his hands on and sprinted for the exit.
Orlando police said Gilder then forced his way out of the store with earrings totaling $769,500; a pair of 4.86 carat diamond earrings worth $160,000 and a pair of 8.19 carat diamond earrings worth $609,500.
He was also accused of stealing a ring worth $587,000, which was later recovered.
The moment Gilder allegedly bolted was caught on CCTV and police also reported that a staff member was injured in their attempts to prevent him from leaving the store.
Gilder’s car was stopped on Interstate 10 in Washington County and he was arrested on charges of resisting as well as 48 outstanding warrants out of Colorado. Police believe he was attempting to drive to Texas after allegedly committing the theft.
But the oddest thing was that police couldn’t immediately find all of the alleged stolen jewelry.
Well, it turns out Gilder has actually been accused of swallowing some of it.
