Chinese-made ‘bone glue’ fixes fractures in just 3 minutes with one injection
Scientists in China have developed a revolutionary new “bone glue” that can heal fractures, which could traditionally take months to heal, in a matter of minutes, according to a report.
Product “Bone-02’ was developed by a Chinese research team, which sought to fix orthopedic injuries that would generally require months of downtime and invasive surgeries that often include metal plate insertions, the Global Times reported.Lin Xianfeng, associate chief orthopedic surgeon at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, in Hangzhou, said the adhesive can achieve precise fixation in a matter of minutes even in blood-rich environments.

The glue treatment comes in the form of a single injection and will “bond shattered bone fragments in just three minutes,” according to that report.
In one trial case, a patient with a wrist fracture received one injection via a mere 3 cm incision and was healed in just three minutes, Cho Sun Daily reported.
Chinese scientists have claimed to have developed a medical ‘bone glue’ which can treat fractured and shattered bone fragments within three minutes, local media Zhejiang Online reported.
The need for a bone adhesive to treat such injuries has been long considered, but the Chinese researchers might have cracked the code.
The product, dubbed as ‘Bone 02’ bone glue has been unveiled by a research team in East China’s Zhejiang Province on Wednesday, according to a Global Times report.
The creators of “Bone-02” further stated that the substance demonstrated a maximum bonding force of over 400 pounds, the Global Times said.
“Bone-02” can also be naturally absorbed by the body as the bone heals, eliminating the need for a second surgery to remove implants, according to the substance’s creators.
Initial tests also indicate that using the bone-glue produces fewer infections than metal plate procedures.
Lin Xianfeng, the leader and associate chief orthopaedic surgeon at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, told local media that the insipration to develop the product came from observing oysters clinging firmly to a bridge underwater.
According to Lin, the adhesive can fix the injury within two or three minutes, even in a blood-rich environment. He said that the glue can be naturally absorbed by the body as the bone heals and there is no need of a surgery to remove it.
The scientists told local media that the glued bones showed a maximum bonding force of over 400 pounds, a shear strength of about 0.5 MPa, and a compressive strength of around 10 MPa, which suggests that the product may have the potential to replace traditional metal implants. It could also reduce the risks of reaction and infection.
