Lee Greenwood is throwing his cowboy hat in the ring.
The country singer, 82, spoke out about House Speaker Mike Johnsonโs suggestion that Greenwood should replace Bad Bunny for theย 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
โI agree with Speaker Johnson. I would make a great performer for any Super Bowl show,โ Greenwood said in a statement to The Post.
โI perform for various NFL teams every year, especially during their Salute to Service games,โ the Grammy winner continued.ย โAs a matter of fact, I will be doing halftime for the Dallas Cowboys during Monday Night Football on Nov. 3.ย Football is one of Americaโs most watched sports, and I am always thrilled to perform the anthem or โGod Bless the USAโ during the games.โ
Greenwood added: โMaybe the NFL will have me perform this year at the Super Bowl prior to the game to have a stadium full of football fans singing โGod Bless the USAโ to kick-off the game!โ
Greenwood recently performed at conservative activist Charlie Kirkโs memorial service in September. Heย also sang hisย patriotic anthemย at Donald Trumpโs presidential inauguration in January.
The following month, Trump, 79, appointed Greenwood to the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.
On Tuesday, Johnson, 53,ย told the pressย heโd rather see Greenwood headline the Super Bowl halftime show next year instead of Bad Bunny, 31.
โI didnโt even know who Bad Bunny was. But it sounds like a terrible decision, in my view, from what Iโm hearing,โ the Louisiana Republican said to the press outside House chambers.
โIt sounds like heโs not someone who appeals to a broader audience,โ Johnson added of the Puerto Rican superstar. โAnd there are so many eyes on the Super Bowl โ for a lot of young and impressionable children.โ
When asked to give his personal pick for the performer, Johnson said, โIn my view, you would have Lee Greenwood or role models doing that. Not somebody like this.โ
Trump also criticized the NFLโs decisionย to have Bad Bunny perform at the Super Bowl.
โI never heard of him,โ the president said onย Newsmaxโs โGreg Kelly Reportsโย earlier this week.ย โI donโt know who he is, I donโt know why theyโre doing it, itโs crazy, and then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment, I think itโs absolutely ridiculous.โ
Trump also stated about Bad Bunny, โThis guy does not seem like a unifying entertainer and a lot of folks donโt even know who he is.โ
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martรญnez Ocasio, and is one of the most-streamed artists in the world, said the decision to perform on the NFLโs biggest stage is a moment that โgoes beyond myself.โ
โItโs for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdownโฆ this is for my people, my culture, and our history,โ heย said in a statement.
The โDakitiโ singerย fired back at his Super Bowl criticsย when he hosted the Season 51 premiere of โSaturday Night Liveโ last weekend by teasing non-Spanish speakers during his monologue.
โIf you didnโt understand what I just said. You have four months to learn,โ he mockingly suggested.
Bad Bunny previously sparked backlash for refusing to bring his tour to the US,ย fearing federal agentsย would be outside his concerts.
โBut there was the issue of โ like, fโking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And itโs something that we were talking about and very concerned about,โ he told i-D magazine last month.
Trump administration officials clarified ICE agents would be at the Feb. 8, 2026 game, whether Bad Bunny liked it or not.
