Family Living On Universal Credit Is Being Evicted From Their Home

We live in a world where it can sometimes be difficult to make ends meet. Nobody knows this better than Amy and Joshua, who are now facing a very difficult time in their lives.

Both Joshua and Amy had a difficult time making ends meet and supporting the family. They did receive public assistance, but it wasn’t enough to keep them afloat.

Along with receiving public assistance, they also were supported by some of their family, but it was also very little. One of their uncles in Somerset did assist, but he was in the minority.

When the Housing Authority threatened to evict them from their apartment if they didn’t accept a plan that would split the family, they were forced to make a very difficult choice. They felt powerless in this situation and are trying to navigate it as well as they can.

Joshua and Victoria Robertshaw had shared a home for years but only Victoria’s name was on the lease. When she died due to complications from COVID-19, even though she was only 45 years of age, Joshua was left in a very tight spot.

He didn’t want to split up his family, even though the Council was giving directives that made the situation very unstable. A court had even ordered them to leave the property within seven days and now it was crunch time.

According to a spokesperson from Sanctuary Housing, the unpaid rent had accumulated, despite efforts to resolve the issue in the best way possible. They have lived in the home for months and have not paid rent.

Attempts to resolve the situation in a peaceful manner did not work out and now they are in the final stages of being evicted. The family is attempting to relocate, and the house needs to be vacated so other families in need can move in.
