Young Girl Stuns The Judges By Performing A ‘Forbidden’ Dolly Parton Song On The Voice

Every song has its own dynamics but at times, they also have a story behind them that is worth telling. This is the case with the Dolly Parton hit song, ‘I Will Always Love You’.

When Dolly Parton released her famous song, I Will Always Love You in 1974. Elvis Presley wanted a piece of it. The terms would mean that Parton would give up half of the publishing royalties to the song and the professional relationship she had with Porter Wagoner would come to an end.

Make no mistake about it, Dolly Parton loved Elvis Presley but she didn’t sign on the dotted line. She said: “Something in my heart says, ‘Don’t do that.’ And I just didn’t do it. But I always wondered what it would sound like. I know he’d kill it…He would have killed it. But anyway, so he didn’t. Then when Whitney [Houston’s version] came out, I made enough money to buy Graceland.”

In 1992, things changed with the release of the film, The Bodyguard which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Whitney Houston would sing that song and it went on to sell 20 million copies. It is the best-selling single of all time by a female soloist.

For many, it has become somewhat of a ‘forbidden song,’ but that didn’t stop a 13-year-old girl, Laura Kamhuber from giving it her all when auditioning for The Voice Kids. After her performance of that song, the judges were all in.

That young girl managed to capture the attention of the judges and to get the chairs spinning shortly after starting the song. It was Tim Bendzko who told her that she had just sang ‘the forbidden song.’ He called it that because in his words: “You’re not actually allowed to sing this song because it’s unsingable.”
